Dr. Alan Deyong, Optometric Physician

Licensed to practice optometry in New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Florida, Dr. Alan Deyong is highly experienced and passionate about providing only the best eye care to his patients.

Dr. Alan Deyong graduated with his first Bachelor of Science Degree from the City University of New York, Brooklyn College in 1973. He then went on to receive a second Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, as well as a Doctor of Optometry Degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

Dr. Deyong's resume is both extensive and impressive. He has been the President and Chief of Staff at The Eye Exam Group in Paramus, NJ since 1998. He is also currently Vice President and clinical consultant to The Eye Exam Group P.A. in Totowa, NJ. Dr. Deyong is also clinical consultant to Omni Eye Services, a specialty ophthalmological practice with four offices in New Jersey. Dr. Deyong is also consultant to major drug manufacturers especially dealing with glaucoma, contact lenses and ocular surface disease. He recently completed two clinical studies on contact lens solutions and one-on-one ocular surface disease.

In 2007 and 2009, Dr. Deyong had the honor of being voted "America's Top Optometrist" by the Consumer's Research Council of America.

Dr. Alan Zastrow, Optometric Physician

Dr. Zastrow is a central Jersey native. He graduated from Rutgers University Cook College in 2010 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biological Sciences and minors in Chemistry and Psychology.  He received his Doctorate of Optometry from Midwestern University Arizona College of Optometry in 2014.

Dr. Zastrow has presented research at the American Academy of Optometry meetings in 2012 and 2013. He has also published research on dynamic visual acuity in the Journal of Optometry and Visual Performance.

Dr. Zastrow has had training in ocular disease diagnosis and management from OMNI Eye Services of NJ and the Providence Rhode Island VA Hospital. He has extensive experience treating and managing patients with diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular changes, dry eye disease, and fitting those with specialty contact lenses. He is currently a member of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians.

In his spare time Dr. Zastrow enjoys traveling and recreational sports such as bowling and golf.


John Schembari, Optician

John has worked in the optical industry for over 40 years. He began his career manufacturing lenses for a wholesale optical laboratory which supplied Pearle Vision Centers. What started as a part-time summer job, quickly turned into a profession. He began taking classes at a local opticianry school. His studies included understanding optics, lens conversions and advanced lensometry. He became a licensed technician in 1981. After a short apprenticeship in retail, John became eligible to take the state board of dispensers exam, known  as one of the more difficult optical programs in the country. He became a licensed ophthalmic dispenser in 1984.

John has worked for Eyelab, the worlds 1st eye-wear department store, helping to grow that operation from a single store in Paramus to over 25 locations.

John has held management positions with large multi-location optical companies. In 1990, he became Director of Operations for Sterling Optical with offices in over 100 locations.

Since 2001, John has been with Deyong’s Eyeworld. His responsibilities include the day-to-day operations, frame buying, optical dispensing, accounts payable, and optical manufacturing.

In his spare time John likes playing the guitar, spending time with family and traveling. His favorite New York sports teams are the Yankees and Giants.


Jessica Carlino, Office Manager

Jessica has been working with Deyong’s Eyeworld since 2003. She graduated from Monmouth University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications in 2008. She has successfully completed courses in ICD-10 Optometry and Ophthalmology training. Jessica has also furthered her education by attending NPCC Medicare Changes workshops.  Every year she attends the New York Vision Exposition Show where she learns the latest technologies in the eye and vision care field. Jessica is committed to quality patient care and superior customer service.

Jessica has been a Monmouth County star softball player since her early teenage years. In her spare time she enjoys going to concerts, spending time with loved ones and her dog Wayde.
